I try not to think
Of who I could have been
If I’d been left to my own thoughts
Instead of turned over to robots.
I try not to think
About the days gone by
When life was a breeze
And I did everything with ease.
I try not to think
What choices I’d take back.
If I could repeat this life –
Would I avoid all strife?
I try not to think
Too long on those gone;
The ones who I miss
And would give anything to kiss.
I try not to think
Of what I would change;
It’s better to accept where I am,
Even if people call me ma’am.
I try not to think
About the dark times I’ve had
When I had cried all I could cry
And wanted only to die.
I try not to think
As if the happiness will last
In this world of ups and downs
Where you’ll often wear a frown.
I try not to think
Beyond the moment I’m in
Because what more is there, really,
Than to love life and be silly?
